Tellus Institute Founder and Director, Marcelo Telles: He is a Soteropolitano married to Aline Telles, has three children (Bruna 25 years old, Thaís 19 years old and Marcelo 11 years old). Graduated in Oceanology from the Federal University of Rio Grande (FURG), he worked at the Abrolhos-BA Marine National Park, where he developed the project “Survey of ParnaMar dos Abrolhos-BA Reef Carcinofauna” funded by WWF-Brazil. Performed the master's thesis “Trophodynamic Model of the fringing reefs of ParNaMar dos Abrolhos-BA”, defended at FURG.
During navigations, it should contribute to the scientific collection of microplastics for the scientific community in general.
In 2013, Marcelo participated in the Falklands Islands expedition to and from South Georgia Island in a 60 foot aluminum sailboat, totaling 1,700 nautical miles.
During the two years of preparation of the sailboat Gaia Soul, sailing the Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts of Europe, the sailboat left La Rochelle and crossed the Bay of Biscay, passing numerous places, including Finisterre, Porto, Lisbon, Cadiz, Gibraltar, Cartagena, Balearic Islands, Barcelona, Hyeres, Saint Tropez and Genoa.
It crossed the Atlantic Ocean in 2018, departing from Madeira Island and arriving at Santa Lucia Island. sailing in total, approximately 6,000 miles.
